Fruit of the Spirit Devotional Series

Welcome to the Fruit of the Spirit Weekly Devotional Series — a gentle, scripture-centered journey through nine powerful traits the Holy Spirit grows within us. Each week offers a warm reflection, a grounding scripture, thoughtful questions, and a simple prayer to help you walk closer with God. May these devotionals nurture your heart, strengthen your steps, and guide you into deeper intimacy with Jesus.

Week 1 • Love

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”
— 1 John 4:7 (KJV)

Love is the first fruit of the Spirit because everything God does begins with love. It is the root that nourishes all other spiritual fruit, and the evidence that Christ is working within us. Real, Spirit-filled love is not based on feelings or convenience — it is steady, sacrificial, patient, and rooted in the character of God Himself.

Some days loving feels natural… and other days it feels like stretching in places that hurt. Sometimes love requires courage, forgiveness, or compassion you do not feel like you have. And on the hardest days, the person you may struggle to love most is yourself.

Yet God invites you to receive His love first so that you may reflect it outwardly. His love steadies you when life feels heavy, strengthens you when emotions rise, and anchors you in seasons of waiting, grief, healing, and renewal. As you begin this Fruit of the Spirit journey, ask the Lord to soften any guarded or weary places in your heart. Let His perfect love refill what life has drained.

Reflection for the Week

  • Where is God inviting me to show Christlike love this week?
  • How has God shown His love to me recently in ways I may have missed?
  • What would change in my daily life if I responded from love instead of emotion?

Prayer

Father, thank You for loving me with a perfect, unchanging love. Teach me to love as You love — with gentleness, truth, and compassion. Heal the places in my heart that feel burdened or closed off. Let Your Spirit produce in me a love that reflects Your heart in my home, my relationships, and my daily walk with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
